June 22 2003: Supra 400 and 24mm f2.8 Nikkor at
f8.0 for
4 hours - meteors or fireflies? You be the judge! Note the faint
background
aurora.
Sept 13, 2004: Supra 400 and 24mm f2.8 Nikkor at
f/8 for
5 hours - some aurora too
July 2005, my Supra is running low and getting
old. This
was a shorter exposure and only a hint of aurora.
I have been
fortunate to see some really amazing aurora in the last
cycle. My three favourites from Sept 7, 2002 are here:
The two pics below
are from the Oct 30,
2003 display(s).
Given the warnings, lots of astrophotographers got great pics - here
are
my best. These were taken with a 24mm f2.8 Nikkor at f2.8 and all for
30
seconds on Supra 400 print film.
This was a quick pic of Pillars
of Light that
appeared in
the West March 12 2005. No moon but clouds over the nearby village
caused
some light pollution.
Here are some more
pics from the Oct 30, 2003 display(s). The ones
in
this row were taken with a 16mm f2.8 Zenitar fisheye at f2.8 and all
for
40 seconds on Supra 400 print film.

Superb Auroral Display
Nov
7th and 8th 2004!
This first set were
all from 4am to 5am on Nov 8th 2004. I got up to
see if the skies had cleared and they had! The aurora had also
intensified.
The three pics below
were from the the
previous
evening (Nov 7th, 2004). I was mostly clouded out but did manage to
capture
some of the display.
This shot below and
the two on the right were taken Sept
10th 2005
during a surprisingly strong aurora display.
