Messier Objects

Charles Messier was a French astronomer of the 1700’s who was interested in Comets, amongst other things. As comets are typically small, faint fuzzy things that move slowly across the background stars, he published list of initially 45 faint fuzzy things that DIDN’T move. Later he expanded the published list to 103 items, and after that added another 7 objects. While he was interested in comets, he inadvertently catalogued 110 fascinating objects that turned out to be stars being born, remnants of stars that have exploded, clusters of stars that float around our own galaxy like bees around a hive, and galaxies.

To manually find and observe all 110 objects is to be considered by many to be a graduation test from casual astronomer to a true amateur. In 2004 I completed my project to observe and sketch all 110 of these objects. Here below are my results to date of trying to image them.
