Draco Dwarf - Galaxy in Draco
  • Description: I have presented this target as a negative image, making it a bit easier to see. Discovered in 1954, the Draco Dwarf (aka UGC10822, PGC60095) is the faint, round patch in the centre of the photo. Made up of mainly old stars, the galaxy is estimated to be around 10 billion years old. Mostly dust free but believed to contain a fair amount of dark matter. One of the Local Group galaxies, it is about 260K light-years distant. With a bit more focal length this galaxy would be resolved into individual stars. Also in the background you can see some Integrated Flux nebula and 5 satellite trails.
